Start of Final Exams

Tomorrow (Saturday) will be the start of Keisha's final exams. Next school year, she will be in third grade already.

She has a tutor who reviews her school work and assignments with her, and so far her grades have been great to say the least. I hope she continues to do well in school.

Keisha's Hawaiian Dance

Here's Keisha's video dancing the Hawaiian Dance from yesterday's Feast Day at school. Taking pictures were only allowed from the back, so her dad squeezed into a corner to take her video. Keisha's the one on the far right side.

Hawaiian Dance

Keisha's going to dance the Hawaiian dance tomorrow at school. She won't be wearing the usual grass skirt - instead, she'll be wearing black leotards and leggings with leis on her head, neck, arm, and foot. I know she'll look great tomorrow. :) I can't wait to take a picture of her.

No Classes Today

December 8 is the Immaculate Conception, and since Keisha goes to a Catholic school, she doesn't have any classes tomorrow. We're going over to my aunt's house to visit her grandfather's (my dad) sister who arrived from Canada to spend the holidays here.

I don't know the results of her mid quarter exam yet, but I am keeping my fingers crossed that she did well. We have a deal that every single toy she put on her wish list I would purchase, so the deal will be off and I'll have to think of a different present to give her for Christmas.

Mid Quarter Exams for the 3rd Quarter

Good luck to my 7 year old baby daughter Keisha on your exams tomorrow! No matter how big you get, you will always be my baby!

The School Year is Almost Over

Keisha's last day of classes is this 23rd of March already, and her graduation from preschool will be held on the 25th. I cannot help but feel so old as I will soon have a 'grade schooler' with me. Time really flies so fast and I just cannot help but feel sentimental over everything that's happened. She's really getting older and soon I imagine myself worrying about the many suitors she'll have...or maybe I'll leave the worrying part with her dad, hahaha!

Keisha's 3rd Quarter Report Card

Yesterday at 5pm, Henry, Keisha, Nicole, and I all went to Keisha's school to get her 3rd quarter report card. If her 2nd quarter grades went down, this time, all of her grades went up except for one subject - GMRC. GMRC stands for Good Manners and Right Conduct, so you can expect our laughter when we saw her grade go down by one point on this subject. Her exam for this particular subject was a bit off, compared to her other subjects where she got only 2 or 3 mistakes. Her average for this grading quarter is 93.33%, and we are all so proud and happy for Keisha.

3rd Quarter Exam Results

I am happy to share that most of Keisha's 3rd quarter exam results were great. The most mistakes she made was 4, on her GMRC exams (lol!). She got a perfect score on her Language subject, and the rest she only made 1 or two mistakes. What frustrates me though is that on some of her mistakes, when I ask her the question, she knows the right answer but she chose otherwise on her paper. When I ask her why she did that, she tells me she was too lazy to erase her original answer although she knew the right one. Hahaha!

Keisha Dressed as Snow White

Henry bought a Snow White costume for Keisha to wear this coming Friday for her Character Pageant at school. Although what I would have wanted her to wear was a Hermione Granger costume, we weren't able to find one. Oh well, she looks great in her Snow White costume anyway. Now all we need to do is prepare for her hair and makeup.

Finally!

I can finally breathe a sigh of relief as Keisha's 3rd quarter exams are finally over. Her exams started on Monday and today was her last day. I'm glad she doesn't have to go through reviews with me and her dad anymore, hahaha!

I found reviewing her to be a labor of love, literally. It was hard reviewing her for her Filipino subject as I had already forgotten her lessons, not to mention the fact that it was hard explaining the past, present, and future tenses of verbs with her in Filipino. I found reviewing her for her Reading and her Language subjects a lot easier, though.

A Christmas Presentation at School

We are all excited for Keisha's Christmas presentation at school tomorrow. She will be dancing to the song Christmas in Our Hearts with other classmates of hers. I am so excited and nervous about tomorrow - I hope she does well and does not forget her steps. I will be taking lots and lots of pictures and will also be recording a video of the entire dance. Wish me luck that my batteries don't die on me!

November 30 is Bonifacio Day

Today is November 30, Bonifacio Day here in the Philippines and it's a regular holiday. This means that there are no classes and no work in most of the offices here. It totally slipped my mind that today is a holiday, and we woke Keisha up for school. She got all dressed up, and went to school. She came back a few minutes later.

We have a tricycle service that fetches her to and from school, and he didn't come today. Also, there is a public school close to where we live and I noticed that it was unusually silent. I should have known, lol!

Keisha felt embarrassed that she went to school when there was no school, but I told her it was better compared to not going to school when there are in fact classes.

No Classes - National Heroes Day

Today, August 31st is National Heroes Day and Keisha doesn't have any school. This is one of the Philippine holidays that I love because on this day, we get to celebrate and remember the heroes who sacrificed their lives just so we could be where we are now - free!

I hope this holiday will also become one of Keisha's favorites as she grows older.

No Classes - Ninoy Aquino Day

Keisha does not have any classes today, August 21, 2009 as it is Ninoy Aquino Day.

I recall when I was younger. I loked forward to holidays like this not because I wanted to celebrate, but because it meant I could watch as much TV as I wanted on the night before, and sleep unitl lunch on the morning. I was happy when there were no classes because that meant I could sleep in as much as I wanted to and not do my homework until the next day.

I know that when Keisha gets older, she'll also begin to understand what the holidays are for and what it means. But for now, I totally understand her liking for holidays and how she can sleep late and wake up even later.

A Star At School

My heart bursts with pride whenever I see Keisha come home from school with a star on her hand. Today's star was because she did a good job at reading out loud at school. Since last year at the age of 4, Keisha already knew how to read. Of course, at first she didn't get to read out loud, but as the months at school went by, she began to read faster and faster.

I recall how she would syllabicate until she got the word right. I also recall how she kept asking us how to read a certain word and how it was supposed to sound. I'm glad that now, she's got the hang of it. Of course, there are some words that she still needs some work on, but as her vocabulary expands, I'm sure she'll get the hang of it.

Off to School!

Today's another Monday, and it's my first day off. Some of my office mates wonder why I would prefer a weekday off instead of weekends off. Mondays and Tuesdays are those days which makes me not regret why.

Why? You might be wondering as well. It's because Keisha has school on these days, and I can take her to school. I get the chance to have little chit chat sessions with other parents and with her teacher. I get to see her artwork hung on their classroom walls, and of course I can bathe her, dress her for school, fix her hair, and all those stuff. I guess having Mondays and Tuesdays off makes me feel like a normal parent.

During my workdays where I leave at 4:30 in the morning and get home around 3:30pm or so, she's already come and gone from school and there really isn't much I can do. I guess being able to make preparations for her before she goes to school makes me feel like a real parent. What do you guys think?

The First Day of School, Really

Today Keisha finally went to school after missing the first 3 days of it last week. She had a fever and since it was raining pretty hard last week, rather than risking her getting a relapse, Henry, my mom in law, and I decided to just let her miss the first 3 days.

I took her to her classroom and shook hands with her teacher and then after introducing myself, explained politely why Keisha missed school amidst the other parents asking her questions at the same time. Her teacher didn't seem to mind, and I found out 6 other students also missed out on the first 3 days with reasons of their own.

I'm glad that since Keisha knows where her room is and already got a glimpse of her new schoolmates for the year, it will make the following days much easier for her. She even got to pick her own chair!

The First Day of School

Today is Keisha's first day of school as a Kinder 2 pupil, but unfortunately, she's staying at home because she has a fever. She's almost better and we all want her to rest as much as she can. Besides, there isn't much activities for today since this is her first day of school.

I am hoping that tomorrow she'll be OK to go to school. I still have to iron her uniforms, something I deliberately did not do yesterday since I knew she wouldn't be going to school today anyway.

Back to School

June is up and around the corner and in a matter of weeks, Keisha will be back in school. She'll be in Kinder 2, or Advanced Casa as her school calls it.

I'm really excited!

Keisha's Awards

I mentioned in a previous post that Keisha received 2 awards from school. She was awarded Most Diligent and Most Generous in her school's Recognition Day. Here are the pictures as I promised. Unfortunately, we don't have any pictures on stage because it was just the two of us who went there, so there was no one to take the pictures. :( Better late than never!
